Yesterday, we bore witness to the upside of behaving like a veritable musical whore. Tommy Gunns epitomizes the upside of selling your artistic soul. But beware, it's not all sunshine and roses. There is always a chance that such a choice can leave you scarred, physically and emotionally.
Take our little friend Likki Stixx as a cautionary tale. It's always nice for the young ladies, and Paul the bartender, when Likki takes the stage shirtless, or ends up that way after only a song or two. But did you ever stop to think why he's the only one in the band who performs shirtless? Certainly it's not because the other guys are embarrassed to do so. No, the just don't have the driving need to show just how manly they are.
You see, in October 1989, the band Vixen was riding high on the success of their (one and only...) hit "Edge of a Broken Heart". But their tour hit a snag when drummer Roxy Petrucci fell ill and was unable to tour. Given his chops, his pretty face, his girlish figure, not to mention his hairdressing skills, Likki, with a few 'tweaks', was the (wo)man for the job. Wearing a specially designed corset/bustier combination, along with some of his best makeup work ever, Likki was able to pull it off. No one knew that Miss October was really Mr. October, thanks to the lack of any 'October Surprise'.All went well until a Halloween show in Detroit, when Likki decided to 'dress up as himself'. Well, what happened is best summed up by the words of a Motor City bull dyke who said, "She was so cute, I wanted to eat her up. Now I want to tear him apart". It did not go well.
Looking back, Likki says that he was emotionally devastated that people (bull dykes included) couldn't just accept him for who he is, and physically devastated by sitting on his 'tucked' unit for hours at a time, on a drum stool, playing double kick. Not only is that not the way his manhood was intended to be 'carried', but the placement and the movement brought him a bit to close to the physical embodiment of actual 'self-love'.
Don't worry Likki the sixteen-year old chicks still dig you.
Peace, out...
