Looking back...

It's always fun to take a long look back at all the accomplishments the band has achieved. The acclaim for their live shows and long-lost recordings (Ok, never-released to-the-public recordings) is stunning, indeed. As is the level of deceit exhibited by bands that co-opted album titles, sometimes directly copying the Toyz ideas!

Reviews for their shelved debut album "Hairway to Steven":
- "Tommy Gunns plays guitar with all the flexibility of a telegraph pole." - Creem Magazine

- For their follow-up "Handcream for Masturbation": "For the first 10 minutes of "Handcream...", I thought it was bad. For the second 10 minutes I thought it was intentionally bad. For the final 22 minutes I wondered whether it was so intentionally bad that it had reached a higher plane of kitsch, like early recordings of the Chipmunks, in which case it is no longer a fair thing to call it bad." - Metal Edge

- For "A Salt With a Deadly Pecker", their domestic-abused themed concept record: "I love the Toyz; but the music I prefer to this is that of a cat hung up by its tail outside a window and trying to stick to the panes of glass with its claws". - Circus Magazine

And then the reviews of their spectacular live show:

- Opening for Sweet F.A. in Indianapolis: "This was by far the worst concert that I have ever seen . The sound was horrible and Emaxx was so messed up from his Thursday night show in Chicago that he didn't even sound like himself. I am really glad that I didn't pay to see it. Some guy in the crowd bonging beer was more entertaining than the Toyz. Very disappointing overall." - Indianapolis Star

- On a double bill with Jackyl in Dallas: " I have to say, this concert was a white trash hell hole. I swear I saw people passing around home made booze. I mean, does it get much more white trash than that? I walked in and asked myself what the hell I was doing there. An arena full of suburban kids trying to act like they know good music by going to see some crappy hair band. Needless to say, Broken Toyz were so bad, someone took the liberty of throwing a whisky bottle at drummer Likki Stixx and knocking him out. The best part is the lead singer of the band that opened for them (arguably one of the worst bands ever), Jackyl, had a chainsaw solo. I mean what the f**k is that? " - Dallas Morning News

And of course it's always special to know how much of a critical darling your band has been on it's long musical journey:

- A low-rent answer to Poison and Motley Crue, South Central L.A.’s Broken Toyz embody every conceivable heavy-metal cliché: banana-hammock-stuffers all, the four wear leather and spandex onstage; guitarist/bassist/vocalist/drummer(?) Tommy Gunns shrieks only of women and the glory of metal, whilst shredding endlessly. Bassist/guitarist/vocalist(?) Johnny Emaxx performs solo bass renditions of “The Flight of the Bumblebee”. Guitarist/keyboardist/bassist (c'mon...) Dannii Lee Damage plays the "Rach 3" while simultaneously rocking Van Halen's "Eruption". All the while, drummer/vocalist Likki Stixx teases the hair and fixes the make-up of everyone else in the band, before riding his drum kit in a 360 degree revolution. They’re quite possibly the most ludicrous people in rock & roll history." - Kerrang!
